Tuesday Sept 11 – Sweet Peas, TaeKwonDo, planting bean seeds

Sweet peas, APP parent run coop, Tuesday at Tobias’ 10:00-2:00, water balloons and Zeke got all wet. Good thing we brought a change of clothes. Throwing a ball with Ryan who’s 4 almost five. Made playdough, avocado colored. Made a playdough turtle. A sword and balloon fight. Picking tomatoes and shelling dried green beans.

Zeke – Taekwondo, participating in most all of the class and enjoying it. I am surprised how much moves and shifts in one week. We are only three classes in and he started out in tears with the first class when they warmed up with jumping jacks. I think he was upset since he didn’t really know how to do jumping jacks. Bruce said he saw something like that with skating lessons.

The guys were excited about their bean seeds so we looked up on the internet how to plabt a bean seed – 1 inch below the surface and we planted two seeds each in a separate yogurt container and watered them and started a log of what we did and what we noticed. I got some great other ideas for kids and planting things to do from a site on the web. Things to try another time to continue our exploration of seeds and planting and growing things.

Monday Sept 10th

Apple gathering at Edgewood back. Driving there Zeke asked name of streets. I started reading signs and he said I was saying them wrong and repeated what I said with a different pronunciation.

Feels great to be back with this group. We played soccer and baseball, connect four. Boys rode bikes down the big hill. After lunch we went for a hike. Zeke said he wanted to. Put things away in car and hiked for a few minutes. Noticing poison oak and roots of trees sticking out on the path, resurrection pink lilies, stopped to smell a bay tree leave. Zeke feel on the way down, back to the car so we were bandaging a knee before heading home.

Afternoon, we made koolaid playdough and then they played with it.

Sarahi read library books to them.

Gathering bottles from Anna and Wilk’s. Learning which ones are returnable.
Rode bikes to Safeway to see if the recycling center was open.

Miles and I painted around 6pm. And we started filling up the blow-up pool.

Between the Lions, TV show about "Stolen Smells" story around 7pm.

More books at bedtime.

Miles learned to ride a pedal bike

Miles has been scooting around on a two-wheel bike without pedals learning the balance and coast. Bruce figured he was ready to try out the bigger bike with pedals. He needs help getting on and off the bike and stopping and starting and he can pedal and keep it going.

Friday Sept. 7

We went to the library in the morning. They each had a basket they filled with books. We read a few in the library and they played on the computers a bit. Zeke was talking to the librarian about the earphones being uncomfortable and she tried to find the foam pieces that go over them.

I picked up info about a concert coming one night and rain stick making another night.

We went to PDI early and rode bikes around. They enjoyed the fast downhill area.

Lunch at PDI. We saw Rex and Zeke gave him a high five. We rode up to the four floor and got a chess board that Bruce had picked up off the free table. Zeke was really interested. He and Miles had the pieces setup in the back seat and they all went flying as I started the car and we moved out of the parking lot.

Played games with Sarahi in the afternoon and read more of the library books.

Friday – meeting Welcomehomeschoolers group

We attended a parkday in San Mateo in the afternoon. Great range of ages with the kids. We played joisting with foam poles. We played with la cross sticks. Zeke was learning how to juggle from one of the Dads. We enjoyed ourselves. And I picked up a Waldroff book about drawing forms from a bag of resources someone was sharing with the group. Meet Susan and Paul who live close to us in Redwood City. Talked with Angela about the upcoming Waldroff teacher group she’s hosting at her house.

Thurs Sept 6 – wrenches and soring money

We were riding bikes and Zeke’s tires were very soft so we pumped them up. I could get the back tire firm so I asked about his other bike – the batman bike. He said it didn’t work well since the fender was rubbing on the tire. So we got some wrenches and took of the fenders. They were both excited about helping hold the wrenches. We were using fixed sized and adjustable wrenches. I noticed that the fixed ones had numbers so I got a tape measure and we say that the numbers on the wrenches were number of  centimeters.

I had sorted out some things in one of the kitchen cupboards and found some coins to put in his wallet. I left them on the counter in a cup and he found them and had them out. So we decided to emptied the piggy bank and wallet  – sorting, counting, 5 dollars 1 bill and 5 bills, 1 dollar, 4
quarters – they were buying ice cream which cost one dollar, we talked
about buying the giraffe sculpture that cost $5 dollars and using the 5 dollar bill or 5 one dollar bills.

Miles – moving the coins to count them helped a lot.

Wed Sept 5 – Coyote Point Museum

The APP playgroup was at a play area in Coyote Point park and we couldn’t find them. We toured around and found the marina, the beach. We stopped at the beach and through some rocks in the water. Noticed all the big planes coming into the airport.

We went to Coyote Park museum (free on first Wed of the month). We saw fox, snakes, turtles, frogs, otter and a few other animals. Had a picnic lunch in the shade. Zeke got out his hockey stick and ball that were still in the car from Tuesday hockey. When a bee came by we talked about what kinds of things could fly into your apple sauce – bees, wasps, flies, butterflies. Then we said things that could crawl into your apple sauce. Then things that could swim into your apple sauce. It was fun :-)
